are oil absorbent pads flammable

Table of Contents

The oil absorbing is suitable for absorbing petroleum hydrocarbons. When the oil absorber pad is used on the water surface, as it does not absorb water, the oil absorber pad floats on the water.

Oil absorbent pads are suitable for cleaning, containment, and prevention of any oil and chemical leakage in automobile, train, and aircraft manufacturing plants, plastic plants, mold plants, injection molding plants, metal processing plants, iron and steel plants, mines, machinery plants, oil refineries, paper mills, oil companies, shipyards, food processing plants, chemical plants, optical fiber plants, oil/chemical storage companies, cable plants, environmental cleaning companies, oil depots, and anti-leakage contractors.

In all these areas, being flammable is a potential danger. Therefore, we have designed a non-flammable product that does not easily ignite and does not burn.

Are oil-absorbent pads generally flammable?

There are several types of pads available now. Some are flammable, as they are cellulose-based, giving them different properties than our polypropylene pads. The cellulose fibers are derived from wood pulp, which is completely flammable.

Eco green’s pads are made from 100% polypropylene (PP) for fire safety initiatives. PP is a thermoplastic material, and when it is exposed to flames, sparks, or other heat sources, it melts and self-extinguishes, not burns. Their flame-resistant properties lead to the fact that they do not support combustion and do not fuel a fire. By ASTM Standard E84-08, we conduct flame-testing and offer a safe product.

Oil absorbent pads get the properties of the liquids they absorb

It should be noted that the above information applies only to pads in their unused and virgin state. It means that once the flame-resistant pads soak up a flammable liquid, they no longer resist flames. It is safer to assume that all pads take on the properties of the liquid they absorb and must be handled with the same precautions as the absorbed liquid itself.

What is the safest pad for using flammable liquids?

If you have to use absorbent pads near the fire, in fueling areas, or for soaking up flammable liquids, the best pad for the job is polypropylene-based Pads. They are also specially treated and packaged to dissipate static, reducing the electrostatic discharge risk. As you probably know, electrostatic discharge is a critical danger to flammable liquids and vapors.
